But the biggest compliment I can give to the Vega 64 is the fact that the GTX 1080 is boxed and under my desk picking up dust :)

Vega 64 is a much better GPU than the 1080 so I am not surprised at all. I changed from a Vega 64 to a 1080Ti and I haven't noticed any difference while gaming. As you found out a little under volting really boosts the performance, while helping with temps, noise and power use.

I did the benchmarks in 3dmark demo - Timespy:

Powersaving: 6131

https://ibb.co/dBpUGz

Balanced: 7116

https://ibb.co/cMzkpK

Turbo: 7234

https://ibb.co/fskVOe

In the balanced and turbo benchmarks the gpu utilization was always at 98 - 99%

This is my power draw in turbo mode according to Gpuz: 220w (i have seen here someone with 243w, is mine right?)

https://ibb.co/nEukpK

With those Wattman settings: HBM mhz 1080 - p6 1050mv - p7 1100mv HBM (floor voltage): 1050mv - Power limit + 30% i had in Heaven just a few more points compared to the Turbo mode. I think that even in 3d mark timespy the result will be the same

No, i'm not even close to those numbers. I have high fps spikes (with higher coil whine), but i also have very low fps spikes. Don't know if its related to Destiny 2 game, i'll try with some other games and see

Your benchmarks are good. Especially the Turbo mode out of the box.
Can you re-install the game, and clean it's profile settings in your %appdata% and document files?

Yea that's definitely going to be holding back the card a bit.
Your likely to get better results using a profile similar to someone who doesn't have the reference card like I do but if you want to try mine are;
1533mhz on p6, 1577mhz on p7, both are 1050mv. HBM voltage has to be equal to them and set the OC for it. 50% pL 62c temp target and I manually set the min fan speed to 2500rpm but with the max value set to max. Yours should be better but you can try.

I did some tweaks and got this:

https://ibb.co/mdHjYe

with those settings:

https://ibb.co/cW1dte

I had a little better score with 1650mhz on p7 but i think i can settle with 1637. The fan speed is a bit aggressive and loud but the temperature stay on gpu at 60 - 62°. Do you think i can lower a bit the fan speed? Better to increase the PL to 50?

I also tried another game (overwatch) where with the old card I had an average of 150 fps. With the vega 64 it's about 150 - 160. I just can not understand why I get so little performance in game since it should be at least twice as powerful.

Thanks you all for your help!

That's a pretty decent GPU score. Not entirely sure why it wouldn't be translating to gaming performance.
Have you overclocked the CPU at all? What is the RAM speed?

Also you may want to try virtual super resolution and try 1440p or 4k.

Today i changed a bit the fan positions and added a 140 intake fan for more cooling and i think its better. Got almost 7500 in timespy. After reinstalling Destiny 2 i see a nice fps improvement, so maybe i have to reinstall all the games, just to be sure.

Now i'll see if i can overclock a bit more the cpu to 4.1ghz and ram to the rated speed of 3200mhz. Right now its 3000 mhz becouse the asus bios give me problems, but maybe with the new bios it will fix the ram.

Anyway seems like the gpu its going fine! The only problem its about temperatures: yesterday after a heavy gaming session i had 70° gpu, 75° HBM and 80° the hotspot. I don't think i can lower the P7 voltage much more so i'll see with the new fans how it goes :)

During summer on the hot days, and before I watercool the Nitro, I had a fan blowing air directly to the cooler.
The fans were spinning only briefly at some times, and the majority of gaming was with a very quiet system. Considering that room ambient was 30C+

What do you think about my temperatures? Are normal or are going to throttle the gpu?

You can always replace the thermal pads on the VRMs with 3mm thick Thermal Grizzly. And since you will be there, replace the thermal paste on GPU & HBM with Thermal Grizzly liquid metal :p
Or at least Cryonaut.

Boomstick has made a discussion in here how he moodified his Strix to improve perf.

Also give a try to the settings found few pages back. They are very efficient (240W), providing really good perf, while they keep the card cool.

Yeah I seen the TG Pad upgrade, having a little back and forth with ASUS at the moment to see if I can get them to say warranty will be in tact after doing it :p.. spoke to two different folk on their help desk, one hard liner and one that couldn't see a problem if done correctly.. so will be interesting to see where it finally lands

Aye, its been good so far

Hi all,
Very late to the party (and a second hand at that, shhh ;)) but I've given it a lovely second home, been very nice to it and put it in glossy glass enclosure; with a smashing shiny jacket on it too:

Vega_64_back_of_the_exposed_pcb.jpg

Can I still get on the roll call? :D

Card is a Sapphire standard AMD board card and the full build is here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/32179451

Resolution be holding him back too id have thought.

After a week and not less than 70 benchmarks in 3dmark I realized that this is exactly the problem. I lowered the floor voltage to 970 and p7 to 1010 and in 3d mark timespy where it does a maximum 60/70 and fps the temperatures have dropped a lot:

60 gpu 65 hbm and 72 hotspots

When I open a game or loop Heaven valley where the fps increase to 140+ the temperatures return very high, despite having the same values in mv and mhz:

66 gpu 71 hbm and 77 hotspots

Wanting to play at 144hz 1080p I'm afraid that there is not much that can be done to reduce the temperature apart from reduce performance to unacceptable levels or putting the card under liquid cooling.

Ignore the hotspot. That is internal part of the Vega 64. I have a custom watercooled card and goes through the roof.
87C is safe for hotspot.

What model is your case? Have you tried to use the system with the side panel removed to see if you truly have very bad airflow in there? How many fans blowing air in do you have?
Is your card new or used? is used, there could have been on a mining rig, and you probably need to replace the thermal paste as it will have been solid like cement by now.

Can you use very fine tweezers to remove the stickers from the two screws on the back and check the thermal paste?

Have you tried the second BIOS configuration? Have you tried those settings here? How does it perform?
