Hey guys, I have just upgraded my old RX 580 Nitro+ to a Vega 64 Nitro+. Here's a size comparison picture :D it's on steroids.

IMG-20181120-185003.jpg

It seems that I am encountering the coil whine sound with this unit. I didn't had it with my 580 and the PSU is a Corsair AX1200i. Should I get in touch with Overclockers.co uk (I bought it from them) or directly RMA it with sapphire? (I did read the guides and planning on loosing up the screws tomorrow and test it out)

Any suggestions are welcome.

Just got my nitro 64. It's a BEAST in size! Few questions:

I've connected two PCI-e connectors to it. Hopefully the 850w superflower leadex platinum should be up to it?

Secondly, the small page in the box says something about fan USB connectors. There aren't any cables in the box. I'm searching for them in the mobo box but can't find any either. What are they for?

Appreciate your help.

1) I'm running it on worse, so I hope so.

2.) You can optionally connect your case fans to your GPU to control when they should kick into high gear for more cooling.

I would suggest not to loosing screws as that could invalidate your warranty.

Contact Overclockers first and speak to them.

Leaving the HBM voltage at 950mv did cause some instability when at 1750MHz core and 1180MHz HBM for me, bumping it up to 1000 and eventually 1100mv did stabilise it though. With the core at 1250mv I should add. For some reason setting anything higher than about 1760MHz on my core will cause it to just hard reset.

Increasing the voltage below the HBM does completely nothing for me. I can run HBM to 1200mhz with 950mv. Tested this many times. As said before this is the DPM 5 vid. See link https://www.overclock.net/forum/27700762-post1153.html

I'm not getting fluctuating clock speeds or power usage, it just seems to be boosting to a lower speed on Windows 10. It was quite happy to sit around 1615Mhz to 1630Mhz in the brief time I had it running Windows 8.1 so I assume it must be OS or driver related, but I can't for the life of me figure out the cause.

This is not normal. So check your bios switch or reinstall drivers (first DDU).There must be something wrong.

Tried those, still high clocks on lock screen. I also tried a clean install of win 10 on a spare SSD - same issue. I guess its specific to my hardware? I'm surprised no one else can replicate it

Surprisingly I saw this behavior on my side. I discovered it because of the coil whine sound in the lock screen. I was busy with some tests so couldn't spent time on it. Now it's suddenly gone. I suspected the new Windows update causing the isdue! Cant say for sure but I also don't know what fixed the issue :) I only reinstalled drivers + update bios after it so could be one of those...

Had a play around in wattman with my card and wondering if anyone can confirm if these results look right.
Information is from HWInfo64, used Firestrike to benchmark and had a quick benchmark run in Forza Horizon 4 as well. As well for some reason if I set my HBM clock higher than 1050mhz it just ignores it and defaults back to 500mhz, is this because it's not stable?

Stock:
Mem: 945mhz
Max Temp: 63c
Core Power: 200W
Chip Power: 242W
Max Clock: 1548mhz
Firestrike: 15121
-------------------------------------------
Better Performance than stock, but lower power:
P6:950
P7:1000
Mem: 1000mhz
Core Power: 126W
Chip Power: 206W
Max Clock: 1556mhz
FireStrike: 15455

In Forza:
Clock: 1540mhz
96fps
Max Temp:62C
Core Power: 104W
Chip Power: 152W
----------------------------------------
And then the lowest power I could get:
P6:850
P7:900
Mem: 1000mhz
Core Power: 85W
Chip Power: 153w
Max Clock: 1407mhz
Firestrike: 14833

In Forza:
Clock: 1424mhz
92fps
Temp: 55C
Core Power 86W
Chip Power: 109w

@gareth_s I am having a similar issue. Only tried one game so far but my clock speeds are fluctuating wildly, anywhere from 800mhz to 1550mhz. My power usage is also fluctuating wildly too, going from 85w to 250w in a matter of seconds. Fps in the game I have tested are worse than my old RX 480. I am on the latest drivers and this is a fresh install of windows, on a brand new build. I only have a couple to days to rma with OCUK, as I built the GPU a few weeks ago but only fitted it yesterday. I am getting kind of worried at this point.

I am getting exactly this issue too, not on a brand new build, but on a fresh install of Windows with a sufficient PSU of 750 watts. Did you get any further in narrowing down what you think may be causing it? Would be a shame for me to have to RMA this card the day after receiving it :(

Try disabling the lower Power States in Wattman. Lock it to P7 and see if it's still fluctuating ingame. I have manual profiles for most games I run as they have different requirements. It's much easier to manage with OverdriveNTool ;)

Thanks for the tip, setting a manual profile for each game seems to have helped! Can't believe I didn't think of this myself :p

I saw some new drivers had been released and so decided to reformat and try those. My issue seems to have resolved itself as the card is now boosting back beyond 1600Mhz.

These scores are very low.

Try those settings and let me know how it goes.

After the EK waterblock leaked and destroyed my Asus motherboard. The card has oxidation on the board from that incident.
I put the fan back on and it then would turn itself off under load.
I returned it to OcUK and they checked the card, could not find any issue.

Then came summer... and it worked fine
In the meantime, I got the alphacool fullcover block which is a small complete closed block and the rest is rather passive cooled, flashed the BIOS to LC and all seemed fine so far (sporting 1760Mhz in HWMonitor and 260-270W).
The card is very sturdy.

There is one slight issue ^^
We had those two days below 0 and on the second day the card would turn itself off under load, if the room temperature is below ~15C.

I put an electric heater next to the computer case and the external radiator (Eiswand), now the card works very reliable again.

My hope is some better new card is released from AMD soon, since the water incident it was never the same :(

p.s. it just means, when I come home from work, I need to turn on the heater and wait for the air around the computer to get above ~20C before starting a game :D

Sustained clock speeds beat full boost. Stock I could sustain 1670MHz with the fan at full noise, but closer to 1600MHz with the fan at a reasonable noise level.
With undervolt I'm getting highs of around 1575mhz though the p7 state is 1632, my temps under load are sub 65 do I need to increase the voltage a bit to get a faster clock?

You really won't get much better, Vega is a very hot running GPU the only way you get higher is a better cooler or water.
The hot spot is key for getting higher speeds.
