A great big warm welcome to the team!

If you haven't done so already then why not check out the Folding@Home Setup Guide and the Quickie Guide for more foldy-tastic tips especially for when you're in a rush

Looking pretty scary up top with only a handful of teams left that we can ever overtake at current production and an equal number of teams hoping to stomp us :o
I've ordered my own reinforcements though hopefully the team will have some extra schools/office production coming back online over the next week or so - maybe borg your grannys' cats just to be on the safe side :D
Lovely team Christmas pressie in the shape of Overclockers Club under-foot, that's the way to do it guys and gal(s)!
If you've not been mentioned either I've made a mistake or your stats haven't changed since last week - give a shout and let us know you're still alive :o

Bloody hell. I am right down this week. About 5K shy of my normal output. Only left Linux for maybe 5 hours max this week to go into Windows. Something else is going on. Gonna check my logs later and see if I have lost any WUs.

Still prodding my bro to make him hurry up and get his upgrade :p

Unfortunately due to xmas I had to shut my machine down, so only got one WU this week :/ I should be in the single machine list though :)

I've been looking at the VMware guides, are they only worth it with dual/quad cores? Anything to boost my production whilst I save for a quad :)

Thanks for the news Rich! Welcome to the new peoples!

Really struggling with electricity bills at home at the moment, so my main rig isn't on but I'll be back crunching again when I'm back at uni in a few days now. Also got a new machine in the house that I've put a couple of clients on :)

Really frustrating that Dad's e2160 is running at stock, but overclocking it as well as running FOH without telling him is a bit too cheeky even for me! Won't be able to upgrade any time soon either, funds won't permit :(

first week running quad and 17k isn't a bad start!! Might try clock it more than it is currently but don't want to tempt fate!

nice 250k tiffy also in the bag.

Good team stomp and lets hope the january sales brings lots more quads to the team totals!!

Fold on team 10 and welcome to the new people!

Aha! Found out why my production is down. Seems I am crunching a load of 3061s and 3062s. They're 1324 points and, unfortunately for me, they are only giving me 3100PPD in total. Down 900 PPD

Looks like I've been getting quite a few of those as well.

8th again, not too bad under the circumstances. My Stanford stats have been showing 4 active processors for a while now so it looks as if the E6600 may have fallen over. I have 2 Q6600s running 2 SMP clients each and the E6600 running 1, so logic would suggest that the single client on the E6600 has failed in some manner. Output seems to have picked up over the last few days since the stats blip over Chrimbo so I should hopefully make a couple of stomps and hopefully hold off team ms9cw before I get back home in 2 weeks. If I can get the E6600 back up as soon as I get home, that should give me enough to hold them off until I get the bits I need to get the E6300 up and running - which should allow me to show them a clean pair of heels :p

Missed out on a tiffy by a few hours as well - never mind, I'tll be something to look forward to next week.

Thanks as always to Rich for the news and a big warm Foldy type welcome to the new guys :)

Does this mean we are going to be pretty much languishing around this position on the leaderboard forever? :(

Hmm, I think there's a lot of untapped potential on ocuk. If you're floating round an overclocking site chances are you have a thoroughly decent PC.

140 active crunchers and there are (looks) 463 members online at the time of this post. There's more milage in there!! :D

Looking at the stats on EOC, at current production we can expect to be stomped twice in the next couple of months:mad:, and then it looks like its going to be status quo for around 12 months after that.:(

I'm sure production will increase with new members and the new quad cores that Santa has delivered, but we will have to wait and see if this is enough to spice up the team competition side of things.

One way to increase output would be to ensure those who are already folding are using the best combination of clients for their hardware. I know not everyone can run Linux natively or virtual machines 24/7 but if dual/quad core crunchers who have yet to try the WinSMP client could give it a go then I'm sure we could get a nice boost to the points (and to the science of course:))

The problem with everyone getting Quads for christmas is the fact that all the other computer/overclocking-based teams will also be getting Quads. So the balance remains somewhat the same.

The biggest difference will be sheer numbers. Someone going from a C2Duo to a C2Quad might only see 1-2K PPD increase, if they heavily overclock and run 24/7.

1 new user might bring in 2K all by themselves. Maybe as much as 4K if they are willing to OC/Linux/SMP. Multiply that by x number of new users and we are laughing.

The biggest problem is not many people are interested in running F@H. Most people try it then give up after a while. There are something like 1200 usernames under OcUK. I know some are temporary ones from races but the vast majority aren't.

We can't really recruit people either because you always get a small group of people kicking up a fuss and declaring Distributed Computing is a waste blah blah blah, which really puts people off.

We need a "Folding drug X cures/reverses/treats disease Y" major headline. Problem is, the life cycle of getting a drug to market for example takes years. In medical terms a 10 year old drug is considered relatively new.
