It really can depend. My 7900Xt is acceptable to me i think. It is vaguely noticeable on occasion.

I have had some cards in the past that were REALLY bad. Like sounding like a pig squealing all the time

Completely the opposite to me. It really looks like it’s just a lottery

I think it's just that most have coil whine.

Remember a lot of people have terrible hearing and can't hear certain frequencies

I've had coil whine in different cards in loads of different machines, houses, with different PSUs etc.

Which is why I am not going to change the card again way too much hassle. I hope over time it gets better. I am running a LG C2 as my monitor so this drives it well. I can use headphones but I like hearing what else is happening in my house as I have toddler but if I put my headphones on I don’t hear it.

I've been considering the white hellhound xtx but the whine reviews have been putting me off. The nitro+ was the other card I was looking at but sounds like it's just as bad?

Is it really just luck of the draw?

Here's my update now Nitro+ XTX still getting coil whine but if I lock frames at 60 no coil whine anything over 60fps coil whine.

It’s pretty much luck.
I have been through 4 cards and they all had coil whine so it’s just part of the course now. Use headphones, undervolt and underclock the card to stock. If you are lucky and get a card without coil whine then grab it with both hands

This sounds like you either lost the silicon lottery or the cooler has a bad contact with the gpu IHS. It should not be hitting 95 C with fans at 100% even with power limits increased, I would consider taking the cooler off and redoing the paste. I took cooler off my XTX and it is relatively straight forwards, do not forget to undo the tiny screws by the DP and HDMI and keep them all in a lil pot so you do not lose them.

Whilst the XT MBA does not have a vapour chamber it does have heatpipes and these can also be faulty in a similar fashion to a vapour chamber. If it is attached correctly then it just may be faulty because it certainly sounds like something is wrong.

I did consider doing it, I repasted my 290x way back but will I have to replace the thermal pads on the memory/vrm?

Mines been fine from a coil whine perspective . The only time I hear mine is in menus when it goes over 1000fps.

I have returned three cards already for Coil whine the only component I haven’t changed to check coil whine is my mother board. I have tried two different AIBs ASUS, Sapphire, two different PSU, EVGA, Corsair all have coil whine with my setup so the only thing I can think of is the motherboard now or it’s just my house as it’s a new build and I don’t know if the current in the house is clean. It’s wired as I have a 1080 Ti gigabyte old card and it too has coil whine so am like

I'd be reaching for hot glue or nail polish at this point!

Compared to MW2 there is almost no noise at all.

Might be worth using Radeon chill to put a frame cap of your monitors top refresh rate. In older games the frame rates can be hugely high causing coil whine.

So probably noticed when intensive gaming?

Having constant tinnitus I typically do not hear coil whine, but I could hear it in the posted video, above
Probably due to it being a different tone to my own whining

This is my 4th XTX with this issue. Only thing left to test is motherboard change. All have the exact same whine.

Yep they happen under load and anything over 60FPS.
