A great big warm welcome to the team!

If you haven't done so already then why not check out the Folding@Home Setup Guide and the Quickie Guide for more foldy-tastic tips especially for when you're in a rush.
Got a Dual/Quad and not scared of getting stuck in to some SMP goodness? Check out SiriusB's excellent SMP Client Setup Guide and see if you have what it takes.

Ouch!!!
Not such a good week - I blame those pesky pirates personally :p

Fold on Team 10!!!

If you've not been mentioned either I've made a mistake or your stats haven't changed since last week - give a shout and let us know you're still alive :o

cheers for the news - indeed will be even worse next week with people heading to the BOINC project for a quick blast!!

Welcome to the new members - FOLD ON TEAM 10

Blame HMS Spanky - she's a good ship but had a good few cobwebs on she.

Thanks for the news rich and hope you don't mine me and a few other wiping this lot into shape for a bonic unstomp - if you haven't already noticed, come and join the 'have a pop at a pirate party' here

That said the pirate folks are well up for some sillyness while doing some serious science at the same time (good on you boys)

Nice one knat - you broke the 1000 stomp mark - I think that a first!

Gaargh, pipped at the post! My last two SMP WUs didn't get in in time :p Still, pretty pleased with 6th place with one rig.

Like the others, I'm going off to battle the sea-dogs for a week or so - but my GPU will still be folding, so there's no excuse for any reciprocal slacking :p And I think TheKnat will probably make up half of the output we lose on his own!

Your first stomp is a proud moment, to be sure. But I still miss the times of SETI Classic, where you'd stash up a billion completed WUs in SETIQueue and dump them one after the other when your complacent opponents least expected it. Them were the days. :D

I'm so dissapointed. My Q6600, plus 4780 GPU really should be giving me a better performance than this. After all it's running 24/7. I'm only using Win XP (SP2), and it is currently at stock.

I've tried the vmware stuff for linux. Couldn't get my head round it. It wouldn't restart if it got shut down, and I had no idea how to tell if it was doing anything when it was runnnig.

If I run 2 win SMP clients they just seem to take as long for 2 WUs as one individually. That may be because the GPU using one core exclusively. Seems like I wasted my dosh on the upgrade.

Never mind let's see if I can thrash a pirate.

Thanks for the news Mr Millions - I'll be slacking for a while as it's all hands to the pumps. I'm crunching Rosetta WU's in the battle with those pesky pirates:). Waiting to see the Aug price drops on Intel to pick myself a quad core:D Then I'll be back to the fold.

Got my rig folding again. Averaging 7500ppd with one machine since i started folding with my GTS! :)

Thanks for the news, and thanks to Mattus for helping me get the clients running again

Whats your secret for getting that PPD with one machine ?

I'm getting 10063.48 out of my main one, but only 1511.56 of that is down to the CPU. Does moving to VMWare linux SMP folding make that much difference ?

Does moving to VMWare linux SMP folding make that much difference ?

It makes quite a difference. This week I was getting about 10,000ppd from my machine when it was on, which was split almost exactly - 4,800 from the CPU and 5,200 from the GPU. The great thing about it is that you always get good WUs :D

Whats your secret for getting that PPD with one machine ?

Not really a secret :p

I'm using Vista Ultimate, running the latest SMP client on my quad, which is getting around 2300ppd, and the latest GPU client on my GTS, which is seeing 5200ppd. :)

Edit: My quad is down to 3.3 at the moment, heat was getting to it :(

You install Samba on it then share the appropriate folder so Fahmon can monitor it from Windows.

You need the FAH affinity changer to get the best out of two WinSMP clients on a quad. I don't know if this is still true when the GPU client takes one core though.

The latest client has an option to unlock the affinity on the cores naturally, witout using that other program.

I think I'm going to have to stick to one SMP client, because with the 2 GPU clients going for it as well, theres not enough power left for it to run 2 successfully.

Sometimes you get 1960 pointers which are slower than the 1760s - the WUs you really want.

From the sounds of it you have a similar setup to me Mattus, the thing that's going to determine the #1 position in the single crunchers when we get back is luck, if one of us manages to crunch one extra WU before the news that may be enough.

However, this week you didn't stand a chance, I had 2k points that came in just after the news :p Nice try ;)

Its nice to see we have quite a few people crunching 10k a day with one machine :D

EDIT: Oh, and I also moved my voltage back down a bit to 1.45v in BIOS. The temps are now down to a manageable level (mid 70s) :)

I;ve found the SMP client to reliably get me 1920 point units and it certainly gets the procesor working,

Production down this week as the hard disk the folding was running on died. Everything had to be moved about and a unit was lost. back going now though.
